When’s the last time you heard great music in Huntsville? If it’s been awhile don’t worry, with the exciting efforts of local developer RCP Companies and London-based music consultants Sound Diplomacy the music landscape of North Alabama is undergoing a radical transformation!
We love science in Huntsville, so we “get” eco-systems. But as AL.com’s Matt Wake recently wrote, “..You can’t engineer a music culture in a lab.” The right opportunities and spaces can be the spark of life for a vibrant music eco-system…one that will attract and retain world-class professionals and companies, and make life here in North Alabama so much richer!
Now with a brand new focus on music and culture, Huntsville and The Shoals might be the next point on the Americana Music Triangle.
It’s the gold-record road that stretches from Nashville, over to Memphis and down to New Orleans. The triangle covers the regions that nine genres of music grew out of… and Muscle Shoals and Florence are right on the eastern edge of this music map.
The Americana Music Triangle is an initiative that includes an online experience connecting music lovers with the bands they follow and to the detailed trails and itineraries of shows and events in the triangle. Soon RCP’s new MidCity venues will be an important stop on that music odyssey.
RCP’s MidCity music venues, The 7-2 talent incubator, and their nonprofit MARS initiative will stretch the eastern side of the triangle to include Huntsville and “The Shoals” with the other great music cities like Nashville, Memphis, and NOLA.
“Follow the Gold Record Road through the triangle, this will be the first-ever comprehensive collection of historical, musical and cultural attractions that define the birthplace of our country’s greatest cultural export. This route will allow you to experience the very places where history made music, then music made history.” American Music Triangle website.
Doesn’t hurt to have a world-respected music industry and urban planning firm doing studies, audits and giving direction! London-based Sound Diplomacy will arrive to set up shop for a bit in Huntsville to conduct their field research; June 4 – 8 in Huntsville and June 11-13 in The Shoals. RCP is sponsoring “The Shoals” audit, just another example of their fierce commitment to this music revolution.
SD will be hosting roundtables with stakeholders and community leaders. They’ll get input from area music industry leaders and talent. Plan to attend the Open Forum on Wednesday, June 6th from 5:30- 8:00 PM at Yellowhammer Brewery’s Lost Bierhall at Campus 805.
