A sultry night in the south…what could be cooler than soulful tunes, bluesy rock n roll, cold drinks, and fantastic food truck fare?
Last Sunday at The Camp Huntsville, RCP Companies hosted a private concert in celebration of Huntsville’s Music Study kick off and London-based music consultant Sound Diplomacy’s first visit to North Alabama. Huntsville City officials, participants of the music study, RCP Companies supporters, and Sound Diplomacy affiliates were invited to jam out to performances by local artist Wade Brown and Natchez, MS rockers Bishop Gunn, and they rocked The Camp!
The audience of 200 mingled around The Camp, a unique outdoor entertainment destination that sits at the doors of MidCity Huntsville. With large umbrellas shading a lush lawn, fire pits, and ample creative seating, this space is a cozy and fresh hang out – the perfect spot to meet new friends, listen to new music and sip your favorite brew or cocktail.
Wade Brown, Huntsville-raised R&B/Soul/Hip-Hop artist, opened the night’s entertainment. The young recording artist competed on Season 2 of NBC’s “The Voice” and he was chosen by Cee Lo to be a member of his team.
Wade got the crowd grooving and with his tunes and his fellow featured musicians on stage like regionally renowned singer Gypsy Soul, Maitland Conversatory‘s Mario Maitland on the keys, and funky duets with Melik Watts and Jalen Kelly. Wade and his dynamic collaborations psyched up the crowd for the featured act of the night.
Check out Wade Brown’s music here. This young artist has great things ahead of him!
Have you listened to the raw, infectious music of Bishop Gunn yet? If you haven’t, you should! Its blend of soulful blues and rock n roll invigorated the crowd as the main performance of the night.
“Bishop Gunn of Natchez, Mississippi, is rooted in the history and sounds of their home and the surrounding Delta, and features a blend of rock and roll, soul and blues. The group consists of vocalist Travis McCready, Drew Smithers on guitar, Ben Lewis on bass and Burne Sharp on drums.” Bishop Gunn.
Bishop Gunn rocked the stage and left the audience in awe, performing songs from their new album, Natchez, recorded in Muscle Shoals at FAME Studio and Musical Shoals Sound Studio. The band was featured on Rolling Stone’s 10 New Country Artists You Need To Know in May 2018 and described as, “The best of the southeast – a little Nashville twang, some Memphis-ippi blues, and a whole lot of Muscle Shoals soul.” It’s safe to say that this band is going places!
Local Hip Hop producer, Codie G was one of the guests on the patio last Sunday evening. Codie enthused;
“This is what a music stage should consist of… balance. Two of the south’s most talented acts, Bishop Gunn and Wade Brown. Southern Rock and Southern Hip Hop Soul via The Camp. Epic night for music!”
This special evening was just a taste of what’s to come in the next few years, as Huntsville and The Shoals become important stops on the Americana Music Triangle map.
Stay tuned for more news as RCP and other innovative partners get North Alabama in gear for the exciting new changes to our music landscape headed our way!
