HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) – We are getting a bird’s-eye view of all of the progress at MidCity, Huntsville’s newest hot spot.
From restaurants to recreation, it’ll have something for everyone.
The MidCity District is a one of a kind destination that continues to come to life in the Rocket City.
Drone footage from Jeffrey Cosby shows all of the work underway at what’s shaping up to be a hub of fun at the intersection of Research Park Boulevard and University Drive.
“We are putting together a community that will continue to grow. Research Park will continue to grow. That retail corridor will continue to grow and it will continue to provide a great quality of life for people all over the area. It’s not just a regional thing. It pulls people from Russellville, Florence, from all over North Alabama, to come and enjoy what we’ve put together,” said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle.
At High Point Climbing and Fitness Huntsville, near Top Golf, you can rock climb, work out and take yoga classes. It’s open to all ages and abilities.
“Being in MidCity is awesome. This development is going to be incredible. All of our neighbors have been so friendly and welcoming and we’re excited about the energy that’s here. We’re excited about people coming to MidCity,” said Lauren DeSeno, Marketing and Sales Coordinator.
MidCity is designed to be a “live-work-play” environment.
In front of High Point, REI’s building is nearing completion. They are about to start hiring managers in the local area.
Across MidCity Drive, there’s a strip of smaller units which will include Wahlburger’s. On the west side (Old Monrovia end) of the district, Dave & Busters is nearing completion and anticipated to open at the end of this summer.
As far as phasing of the entire 140-acre 18-city block district, crews are starting construction towards the center of MidCity next towards the Aloft, down MidCity Drive, and the south end of the Park with the Amphitheater.
And behind High Point, the building of Pies & Pints going up! It’s scheduled to open late summer or early fall.
The grand opening for High Point Climbing and Fitness at MidCity will be Wednesday from 10 am to 10 pm.
There will be events throughout the day, including half- price day passes and a raffle for a six month membership.
There will also be local vendors and outdoor retailers at the event.
“High Point is a full fitness facility. We have rock climbing, yoga classes, a weight and cardio room. It’s open to all ages and abilities. Anyone can come climb. You don’t need any experience or any gear. We’ll take you through orientation, show you the best places to start and go from there,” DeSeno said.
“It’s nice to be able to work and provide something for everybody in North Alabama,” Mayor Battle added.
