We’re already halfway through 2018. The first quarter of the year was packed with announcements about future endeavors, but second quarter set a new tone for impact. Here’s a synoptic recap of the past three months:
Following last quarter’s announcement of RCP’s partnership with Atlanta’s Southern Fried Hospitality, Chef Marc Taft announced a brand new restaurant concept for CityCentre at Big Spring. Gemini Kitchen + Cocktails will be the sole restaurant in the space underneath the AC Hotel by Marriott in Downtown Huntsville. The Gemini is a casual, modern American restaurant that sets out to attract a broad range of people looking to enjoy a quality dining experience that won’t break the bank.
The AC Hotel topped off at the end of April and is underway to open with The Gemini late Fall of this year.

Last quarter, RCP announced Dave & Buster’s coming to MidCity late next summer. The response from the regional community was incredible. RCP Companies had the honor of adding more nationally acclaimed businesses to the lineup within the past few months.
The restaurant scene in Huntsville has been booming in recent years. So much so that two celebrity-driven restaurant concepts chose MidCity for their next location. Wahlburgers and Rascal Flatts Restaurant were added to the lineup in May. A 4,000-square-foot Wahlburgers, a chef-inspired full-service restaurant with dining, full-service bar and takeout, will command a corner space at the front door of MidCity. Wahlburgers is owned by reality TV and movie star brothers, Mark, Donnie and Chef Paul Wahlberg. The 7,500 square-foot Rascal Flatts, named for and endorsed by the Grammy-winning country music band, is currently under design. It promises a Southern-inspired menu, live nationally-recognized entertainment with a sound stage, a bar and retail space. Rascal Flatts will be located across the bridge from Topgolf.
A booming restaurant scene was sparked by flourishing tourism industry for Huntsville. MidCity announced the first hotel to join the development – Marriott’s Aloft Hotel. Construction on a six-story, 130-room hotel is set to begin this fall, with an opening in late 2019. RCP Companies has enlisted privately held Yedla Management of Huntsville to manage the hotel.

ast quarter, RCP Companies revealed how the world-class 8,500 capacity amphitheater accompanied by the newly introduced MidCity Live, the 7-2, The Camp at MidCity, and numerous other venues will grow and support the local music sector. RCP announced our support of The City of Huntsville’s initiative to put Huntsville, Alabama, on the map as a Music City. The City is partnering with Sound Diplomacy, a respected and innovative London-based music consultant, to conduct a full audit of the city’s music ecology. The audit will evaluate Huntsville’s fragmented music industry and determine what programs and infrastructures can be implemented to result in a strong, positive cultural and economic impact for the region.
RCP’s investment in music advancement is multi-dimensional. In correlation with the Huntsville Music Audit, RCP is sponsoring Sound Diplomacy to conduct an audit in our neighboring Shoals Region. The two studies in North Alabama will create the nation’s largest music ecosystem survey and will aim to position Huntsville as Alabama’s First Certified Music City and highlight the Muscle Shoals region music legacy to increase the value of music across North Alabama.
In celebration of Sound Diplomacy’s visit to North Alabama and the kick-off of the study, RCP hosted a private concert at The Camp at MidCity with Southern Rock group Bishop Gunn and Southern Soul artist Wade Brown. We invited Huntsville City officials, participants of the music study, RCP Companies supporters, and Sound Diplomacy affiliates to enjoy an evening of the best of Southeast Music at MidCity’s new patio venue.
